Great mood music

It's great to see someone here who doesn't go for in your face percussion. It's rather subtle, instead. Good atmosphere you create there. Only criticism I'll give: The hi-hats sound slightly awkward and the ending is too abrupt. Done. Great work overall.

thx man;),,,

Slightly sterile

Too mechanical. The drums aren't loud enough and the mix sounds dry, which makes the instruments sound all the more midi-ish. The way it's mixed, with your midi-ish instruments of choice, you'd probably be better off without the drums. Then it sounds like videogame music. If you want to make it "techno", then you need to make the mix alive. The drums must be pushed to the forefront and you need to use effects. Get familiar with compressors and equalisers, or get rid of the drums.
As for the musical content, it seems to me that it may be a little too long for it's own good. I think that in most art forms (literature, film, MUSIC), things should be cut down to their essentials. You only make long music if there's so much content there's no way to cut it short. Yours could be cut short. It's 2 or 3 minutes too long.
Keep it up. I do spot some raw talent there.

hey thanks for the review, yeah i'm a little weak in making drums beats. midi-ish? what do you mean by that?
i did realise it was a little weak in the techno area after i submitted it lol, and i'll keep the videogame genre in mind, it seems most of my songs go with videogame =/
ill keep your review in mind next time i make a song
thanks again ^_^

Get rid of all rhythm

Nice soundscapes. I was enjoying it a little. Then you tried making it trance, like every other fucking song in this damn website (don't know why I keep reviewing) and fucked it up. You should try your hand at ambient. You've got no ear for melody, song structure and you can't mix. You do have a good ear for atmosphere, though. Get the best out of it.

Korpze responds:

ive seen worse songs than this on the top 5 lol....
shit...
and what do you mean "tried to make trance"
trance is a mixture of ambient, house, and techno. its suppose to have ambient!
=/
--- Edit:
Trance: "...The style is arguably derived from a combination of largely electronic music such as ambient music, techno, and house..." lol look it up. its at a lot of places

This is just wrong

The first few seconds seemed ok. Then the drums kick in and I'm left speechless. How the hell does someone screw up the tempo like that?! You're probably 10. I should go easy... But I won't. Stop making music. Everybody's more talented than you.

EpicMastermind responds:

chillax...I know the drums don't match...I just added them in for fun...

Enjoyable

The music is a little repetitive but the lyrics make up for it. Maybe it would sound better if the guitar sounded heavier or the bass were more danceable.
As for your voice... Have you ever considered getting into throat singing? You growl some impressive low notes there.

TheBardOfBlasphemy responds:

Thanks for the feedback... it's refreshing to actually get some constructive criticism on this site! The elements you identified are possible areas for improvement but the mix is as it is... once I'd heard this for the 100th time I'd had enough and so I posted it how it was.

As for the vox... shit man... I got gravel rash on my vocal chords as it was after singing this... I think I need to practise more so they can scab up and get tougher or something coz I was shagged by the end of this one!

How incredibly well done!

Good production, good dynamics, good structure to the music, good interplay between the individual layers of instruments. Respectable effort.
Personally, I hate this kind of music.
And your comments for this track paint a portrait of an overly cocky producer. I'm not too fond of that, either.
But still, the music is well done. Very well done. Can't complain about that. You should go pro, if you aren't already.

Kr1z responds:

Thx for the compliments!
overly cocky me? :P in no way :)
Ive worked hard on this piece and im telling the details in the comments.

Anyway, glad u kinda liked it!
Bye!

LIMITERS!!!!

Hey, weren't you the one who made my head explode earlier?
This is well done but you've got to learn to use limiters!
Your music doesn't sound as loud as professional music, you notice, so you turn up the volume so it's as loud as your software can make it. If the meter shows red, that's bad. You should keep the mix at or below 0db at all times, or you shouldn't allow it to go much lower. Then, once it's done, you take your mastering gear/software (EQ, compressor, equaliser, etc...) and make it loud. The difference is that it's compressed into sounding louder, not harsher. The way you do it sounds harsh, nearly unlistenable.

LoneSniper responds:

Yes i certainly am the one who made your head explode earlier, but thanks for the advice because im new to this track mixing, i'll bear that in mind.

Sounds good

The lower end sounds harsh but besides that it's a great mood song to go with animations here in NG. It's cinematic. Very simple, but effective. Making the arrangement more ornate wouldn't hurt, though.

LeDrewxCore responds:

Thanks for the comment. Yes, I was going for simple something that can be looped in games or movies. This is the first version and I will try and improve upon it with people comments.

Thanks

I despise hip hop

I hate like how hip hop takes a 2 second sample, repeats it for the duration of the entire track and adds little to keep it interesting. This works pretty much like that but you keep it interesting. You add good sounds to complement it (the strings, chords triggered in unison with the snare drums...) and I love the crazy drum processing. Those effects are usually reserved for jungle. It's good to see they sound good in slower tempos. Keep working on it. Good track. You only get a 6 because it's a work in progress. If it were the full song you'd probably get a 10.

DjViRuSnz responds:

Haha, no worries, thanks bro ;)

Definitely not my style

Those trance sounds always remind me of the dark ages. Alice Deejay ruled the world, the SANDSTORM was everywhere, people took Scooter seriously... It brings up bad memories. I've always liked fast breakbeats, though, so there. The production is decent (the drums should be a little louder, it seems). It's mostly well executed. It may be a little simplistic melodically, but then again, that's standard practice within dance music. Definitely not my style but good work.
P.S.: I like the fact that it's uplifting. You're not trying to be a badass. You make the world a better place. Congratulations for that.

paranoiddj001 responds:

I'm glad you liked it even though it's not your thing. Thanks
